Between 1942 and 1945, Organization Todt constructed an extensive system of coastal fortifications for the Third Reich that stretched from Spain to Norway. It was designed to thwart the anticipated Allied invasion of mainland Europe. This photo essay documents the remains of these former strongholds in the Normandy region of France - now places of memory, entropy, and tourism.
